SON Celebrates 50th Alumni Homecoming
Last July 14-20, 2019, Mountain View College-School of Nursing celebrated its 50thyear of giving a holistic education that is in lined with Christian principles, with the theme: “50 years of celebrating God’s Faithfulness.” More than 150 alumni of the MVC-SON coming from different parts of the world entered the portals of Mountain View College once again and took part in the week-long celebration.
The said homecoming program was attended by the alumni from different batches, starting from the pioneering batch until the present graduates of MVC-SON, and these are:

Monday, July 15, 2019, was the opening ceremony of the aforementioned event. It started with the devotional at the MVC Annex campus, followed by the parade of the alumni from the annex to MVC main campus. At 3:00 pm of the same date, wearing their Havana attires, the alumni attended the program conducted at the Kern Hall Auditorium. It was also graced with the presence of our very own college president who gave his welcome address to the attendees. Other guests include SPUC President Roger O. Caderma, Valencia City Mayor Azucena P. Huervas and Bukidnon Province Governor Jose Ma. R. Zubiri, who gave their inspiration talk to the alumni. After that, everyone’s mind was set in tuned to the message that was delivered by Ellen M. Zamora from the D’Pioneers Cebu batch 1972. The program ended with the remarks from the MVC Alumni Association Homebase President Gemini F. Asok. In the evening, everyone gathered at the covered court for the fellowship meal and night of music. The sky also lighted up with different spectrums through the fireworks display.
The highlight of day 2: July 16, 2019, games were played between the alumni that were also participated by the students of SON. Camaraderie and the desire of the players can be seen in the players as they try to earn points for their teams to win. At 6:30pm, alumni as well as students of SON gathered at the Florence Kern Auditorium to showcase their exceptional talents through singing and dancing, as well as role-playing noteworthy scenes from telenovelas - a proof that, indeed, MVC-SON graduates are not just skilled nurses, but also talented individuals.
July 17, 2019, Wednesday morning, a medical mission was conducted at MVC covered court headed by the SON alumni and were assisted by the SON students who volunteered for the said event. People living in the nearby barangays came over to be examined by the physicians present and they also participated in the health lectures given in every station. At 7pm, a gala night was held at Hotel de Susana where the alumni displayed their Filipiniana attires and tuxedos. It was also a night of awarding MVC-SON alumni who have topped the board exam, those who have acquired their PhD, and many others.
On day 4 of the 50thAlumni Homecoming, a Continuing Education Program was conducted and was held at M.T Oliverio Hall. The topic of the said program centered on Patient Safety in Nursing Practice and Nursing Education. There were three keynote speakers namely: Carl Silva, BSN, RN, CCRN; Lolita Taroy-Dumpasan, MN, RN; and Meriam Cadiz-Fabriga, MSN, RN, CPN who discussed about Patient Safety and Healthcare-related Infection (HAI) in Adult care setting, Patient Safety in Nursing Practice and Nursing Education and Zero Harm: Making a Bundle Related to Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC) in Pediatric Setting respectively.
Friday morning, July 19, 2019, a business meeting was held at the M.T Oliverio Hall, the said meeting had 3 primary agenda that were covered: Current status of MVC School of Nursing, Projects and Directions. The moderators of the event were Rosemarie F. Cacho and Devaney M. Bayeta, the former and the current dean of the School of Nursing. At 5:30pm, the group gathered at the Jubilee Park to welcome the Sabbath in a unique way. This was followed by the Vespers program at the MVC Alumni Church.
July 20, 2019, Sabbath day, the SON alumni lead the church services in the Alumni Church.
The week-long celebration of the 50th Alumni Homecoming ended with hearts filled with new memories and gratitude as everyone looked back at God’s faithfulness through the years while looking forward to His endless blessings to the MVC-School of Nursing.
